Always look on the bright side

If you’re Lithuanian!  This weekend brought us the amazing result from the Davis Cup, where Lithuania beat Great Britain in the biggest victory in their history, and Great Britain sank to an all-time low.  Bad news (though not unexpected news) if you’re British, but the cue for wild celebrations in Vilnius.

And I think there is some good news for all of us in the small business community.  We often think we can’t compete with the ‘big boys’ who have sales and marketing budgets bigger than our turnover, and recognisable brands we cannot challenge.  Yet Lithuania have a tennis development budget of £90,000 a year – equivalent to one day’s spending by British tennis authorities.  So today’s good news is that size isn’t everything – application, intelligence, determination and good fortune can mean the minnows have their day too!
